This is the archive of sixty essays and sixty-two songs I created in Germany.
Together, they form the “Cultural Atlas of China’s High-Speed Rail Aesthetics” — a sensory tapestry spanning color, opera, intangible heritage, music, and fragrance.
Within this map, each essay and each composition is a coordinate of rhythm, a breath of civilization.
The speed of the high-speed trains is no longer only about velocity, but a vessel that carries culture, memory, and aesthetics.

In Guangzhou, the rhythm of the railway begins at dawn — high-speed trains at the South Station glide through the morning light like song. Soon after, I walk into the Railway Museum, where between old tracks and signal posts I hear the echo of order. A week later, the slow journey of a green train gives steel back its human voice. Speed, order, and breath converge across these three iron lines to form the rhythm of the South.

In Jinan, I heard three sounds of the city’s civilization — the stillness of the railway, the words being written, and the endless murmur of the springs. Even when the trains are quiet, the message continues to travel; the water keeps flowing, and the spirit of civilization lives on.

The high-speed train journey from Nanning East in Guangxi, passing through Changsha and arriving in Wuhan, was also a synchronized calling of body and civilization. From the ancestral hall to the station platform, from a frightful shared ride to the landing of ancestral roots, the returning train of souls followed the rhythm of the mountains and rivers — carrying back, stop by stop, the echoes of the "Chu Ci" onto my own body.

During my visit to CRRC Sifang in Qingdao, I saw the skeleton of high-speed rail and the heartbeat of rhythm — and in an unfamiliar yet comfortable dinner, I tasted the lingering sweetness of human warmth. From the exhibition hall to the assembly line, from the virtual cabin to the dinner table, it was not a technical tour but a rhythmic ballad written for speed and humanity.

In Hong Kong, I finally walked and breathed in my own rhythm. The Ding Ding Tram carried not just sounds, but silence and softness—while atop Victoria Peak and around the dinner table, family gathered like a quiet poem. This was not a trip, but a resonant echo of rhythm and belonging.

I am not a traveler; I am a bearer of poems. Setting out from the rhythm-misaligned Suzhou South Station, I played my own settings of “Li Sao,” “Tian Wen,” and “Jiu Ge” in the second carriage of a Fuxing train— not for people to hear, but for the high-speed rail to listen. Passing Huangshan, Jingdezhen, and Ganzhou, I tucked lines of verse into the seams of rails and platforms, and at last, at Guangzhou East, I met my bloodline. This was not a journey; it was a southbound repair of Rhythm Civilization.

I was born the same year as TRA’s North-Link Line, and grew up beside the level crossing at the foot of Hualien’s woodlands. The train’s bell was my mother tongue of rhythm, learned before language itself. From the rails of childhood to the Hualien Railway Culture Park, I record the tempos my body remembers and write a twin history of the East Coast railway and my own civilization.

A rhythmic echo unfolds at the former residence of Zhan Tianyou in Guangzhou: from a whisper before his likeness to rails, blueprints, couplers, and that wall proclaiming “Build northward, win renown at home and abroad.” Between courtyard and gallery, I converse with an engineer from a century ago and listen for the first heartbeat of China’s railways.

A chant of Rhythm Civilization unfolds at Qingdao Station: from the museum’s lament for the nation to the hushed echoes at the forecourt, concourse, platform, and carriage. Amid fourfold recitation, I listen to the rails breathe—from the century-old steam whistle to today’s heartbeat.

A Rhythm-Civilization inquiry unfolds at the Qingdao Museum of the Jiaozhou–Jinan Railway: from German-laid rails to today’s echoes, among these iron relics I listen as civilization rewrites itself—from imported tempos to its own breath.
